What every motel homepage needs (and what to cut)

Your homepage has one job: get a stranger to book or call. Here's what belongs on it and what's just in the way.

Your homepage is the busiest page you own, and it has exactly one job: get a stranger to book a room or pick up the phone. Everything on it should serve that job. Most motel homepages are cluttered with things that don't. Here's the short list of what belongs — and what to cut.

What belongs, in order

  • Your name, town, and one honest photo — above the fold, so a traveler knows in a glance they've found the right place.
  • Book and Call buttons — obvious, and reachable by thumb without scrolling.
  • One line that says why you — "Clean rooms, real pool, five minutes from the park." Plain and specific.
  • A few real photos — the room, the pool, the sign at dusk.
  • Where you are — the exit, the landmark, a tap-to-navigate map.
  • A little proof — two or three real reviews.

That's a homepage that books rooms. Notice how short it is.

What to cut

Now the things that quietly get in the way:

  • The autoplay video that spins the phone's fan and delays the page. Charm doesn't need to be heavy — we made that case in neon that loads fast.
  • The wall of text welcoming visitors to your website. Nobody reads it. Cut it to one honest line.
  • The stock photos of a resort that isn't yours. They read as fake and cost you trust.
  • The pop-up that covers the book button the second the page loads.
A motel homepage isn't a brochure to admire. It's a doorway to walk through. Everything that isn't the doorway is in the way of it.

The test

Pull up your homepage on your phone, on your data, standing outside. Can a stranger tell where they are and book a room in the first screen, before scrolling? If yes, it's doing its job. If no, the fix is almost always subtraction, not addition — take away until the booking path is the clearest thing on the page. If you'd like us to run that test for you, we do it free.
